Ellen Johnson LCSW

I earned my Master of Social Work degree from Barry University in 2014 and have over a decade of experience providing psychotherapy in clinical mental health settings. I work with individuals navigating emotional distress, anxiety, trauma, and the cumulative effects of ongoing stress, where emotional responses shape daily functioning, decision-making, and relationships. My work focuses on helping individuals better understand their internal experience and how emotions, thoughts, and past experiences influence behavior in the present. Many people come to therapy with insight into their patterns but still struggle to respond in ways that align with how they want to live or relate. Therapy provides space to slow those patterns down, examine them more clearly, and develop more effective and sustainable ways of engaging with life as it unfolds. My approach is trauma-informed, attachment-aware, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic and attachment-based frameworks, and nervous-system–informed interventions. I am trained in EMDR and incorporate it when clinically appropriate. I am also trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, which supports deeper attention to the role of the body and nervous system in emotional regulation and behavioral patterns. I also hold clinical interests in relational dynamics, including communication patterns, blended-family systems, adoption, and work with neurodivergent individuals. As a therapist, I value direct conversation, clarity, and realism. My goal is to support meaningful psychological change by helping individuals better understand themselves and engage with their lives in ways that are more intentional, effective, and aligned with who they are.
